One of the most important things to think about when building a chicken house is the size you are going to build it.
Obviously most people will want to keep their total costs down, but often this can cause them to opt for a chicken house that is much smaller than what they actually need. The big problem with this is that if you build a chicken house that's too small, your birds are not going to lay eggs as optimally as they could, so you won't get as good of results from your chicken coop.
Here are some size guidelines to keep in mind.
Small Chicken House
A small chicken house will be best suited if you are raising three or fewer birds or are looking to build a mobile chicken coop since it will be easier to transport around.
Medium Chicken House
The medium chicken house option is good from anywhere between three and seven birds, depending on how large you build it. Again, take factors such as climate, light source, and land form into consideration when determining this option.
Large Chicken House
Finally, if you are planning to have more than eight chickens in that single chicken coop, you're best bet is to go with a large house. This will give them more room to run around and they will feel much more comfortable.
